Deaths in Slovenia by underlying cause, 2022

All bars use underlying cause of death (UCOD) so categories are comparable. Road traffic uses the 30-day international standard.

Underlying cause of death (UCOD) Diabetes incl. contributing cause (estimate)
Slovenia 2022 deaths by underlying cause: cardiovascular ~7,500; cancer 6,381; diabetes 304 (underlying) / ~1,000-1,200 (incl. contributing, estimate); road traffic 92 (30-day standard); measles and tetanus ~0.

Counting basis. All bars use underlying cause of death (UCOD) — one death attributed to one primary cause — so categories are comparable. Road traffic uses the 30-day international standard (92), not the lower preliminary national count (75).
Diabetes caveat. The 304 figure is UCOD only. NIJZ notes diabetes is rarely recorded as the underlying cause because diabetics more often die of cardiovascular complications, so this systematically understates its true burden. The lighter bar (~1,000–1,200) is an estimate of deaths where diabetes contributed, using a 3–4× UCOD multiplier — illustrative, not an official figure. Many of those deaths are already counted inside the cardiovascular bar.
Year-to-year volatility. UCOD diabetes deaths swing widely: 304 (2022), 476 (2021), 443 (2020), 317 (2023). A single year overstates precision.
